Large projects
A 21st century Manor House in the Chiltern Hills.
A garden to enhance a new house on a sloping site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in rural Hertfordshire.
The brief was clear; the garden had to bed the house into its surroundings and provide separate contrasting areas for different occasions. Despite the sloping site these had to be linked so that the garden felt like one friendly space, welcoming visitors to walk and explore.
Separate areas were created: a formal main terrace, a family terrace and lawn, a secluded breakfast garden, a meadow garden and an orchard overlooking the tennis court. All were united by wide gravel paths and oak stairs passing through dense planting to encourage exploration.
