A children’s’ nursery garden in Clapham.
A new use for a former Doctors’ surgery on a corner in Clapham. The building has a large front garden which was to be converted into a children’s’ play area but there was a problem; as the building faces a busy main road a screen was needed.
Planning rules allowed building a brick wall up to 2.0 metres high but that wasn’t enough to stop top deck bus passengers seeing over it. The solution was to plant a row of pleached trees along the wall to provide a taller screen.
Rubber play surfaces, fencing and gates for safe play.
Artificial grass, a play mound, outdoor toy storage and planting, including two trees completed the scheme.
The pleached hedge five years after planting.
Work in progress.
